Am I weird?

This is my most recent possession. It's a huge (40 by 30 cm) roasting tin (that will, I'm sure, also accommodate a sheet cake perfectly). The people at my favorite cook shop, Kunst & Køkkentøj, said it probably wouldn't fit in the oven, but let me take it with me home for a try. It fits perfectly, leaving 1 cm on each side between the handle and the oven's side. Like a glove.

I know. I know. A ROASTING TIN?? C'mon.

But no. There's no denying it. I LOVE IT!

Now I just have to figure out what to make in it...

Zarah Marie, that roasting tin is beautiful! I love it. And you can make a big turkey. And, by the way, what is a sheet cake?

That is one gorgeous roasting pan, and you are most certainly NOT weird. When I got a stockpot for Christmas last year, I could hardly pry myself away from it. You could say that makes us both weird, but I prefer to think we're just *passionate*!

Gorgeous roasting tin! Most of my tins are like this, different shapes, but just like this. You know this is perfect for greek Mousaka!

Want a recipe?

(a greek lurker :o)

Hasselback potatoes!

What about Nigella's ham in coca cola? ;-)

I bought the same pan at the end of last year (but returned it for one size smaller when it almost got stuch in my oven).
I vote for roasted chicken and potatoes. I never thought to make a sheet cake in my roasting pan...

Hi everyone! I'm glad you all like my new roasting tin - I still haven't cooked anything in it, but I'm loving all of your suggestions. It's good to know I'm not the only weirdo - oops! I mean passionate! - person out there!:-)

Ana - a sheet cake I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone?) is basically a rather flat (maybe 2 inches tall) cake, large (7 by 10-12 inches) and typically something I for one would bring to class to share with my fellow students. I hadn't heard the expression before I bought Baking by Flavor (one of my favorite cookbooks, as you'll know if you've browsed my blog!:-)) and Lisa Yockelson, the author, uses the term for large cakes, contrary to all the Bundt pan cakes, smaller square pans for brownies etc.

Get all the good tomatoes you can along with some sweet white onions and some fresh herbs and roast up a gallon of tomato sauce!

Hi Zarah - This roasting tin is bigger than mine! Looks beautiful. Looking forward to seeing what you cook in it...

This usage may be a bit indirect, but a deep roasting tin works wonders when for custards -- especially those baked in ramekins and other ceramic dishes. Probably could use it as the water basin for cheesecake too.

Barrett, that's a brilliant idea! As soon as tomatoes are everywhere, that is surely one of the things I have to try!

Keiko - thank you - it sure is HUGE!

Anon - great idea too, hadn't thought of that. And lord knows I've had my share of problems filling enough water into those ridiculous shallow pans that comes with your oven...
